The keynote lecture "Complexities and opportunities for gold processing in a changing environment" will be presented by Prof. Sehliselo (Selo) Ndlovu, of the University of the Witwatersrand, South Africa.
Selo Ndlovu is a Professor in the School of Chemical and Metallurgical Engineering at the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg, South Africa. She holds a PhD in Minerals Engineering from Imperial College, London in the United Kingdom. She joined the Engineering Faculty at Wits University in 2004 where she has since established a strong teaching and research base in hydrometallurgy, spanning precious and base metals, solid and liquid waste treatment, optimizing existing and developing new processes for metal extraction.
Selo currently holds the Department of Science and Innovation (DSI) and the National Research Foundation (NRF) funded SARChI research chair in Hydrometallurgy and Sustainable Development, at the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg.
Selo is also a former President of the Southern African Institute of Mining and Metallurgy (SAIMM), an organization that looks after the interests of the mining sector professionals in Southern Africa.
The keynote lecture "Innovation in materials manufacturing through circular economy" will be presented by Prof. Nabil Nasr, of the Rochester Institute of Technology, USA.
Nabil Nasr is Associate Provost for Academic Affairs and Director of Golisano Institute for Sustainability at Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT), USA. His research interests focus on remanufacturing, circular economy, life cycle engineering, cleaner production and sustainable product development, and he is considered an international leader in research and development efforts in those disciplines.Nabil is also the founding Chief Executive Officer of the REMADE Institute, providing oversight of node-level research roadmap development as well as corporate engagement. This national coalition is working on new clean energy initiatives, focusing on driving down the cost of technologies essential to reuse, recycle and remanufacture materials such as metals, fibers, polymers and electronic waste.
Nabil currently serves as a member of the International Resource Panel of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP). In addition, he has been an expert delegate with the U.S. Government in several international forums.
The keynote lecture "Human rights, responsible business conduct and sustainable mining" will be presented by Sheri Meyerhoffer, Canadian Ombudsperson for Responsible Enterprise, Government of Canada.
Sheri Meyerhoffer was appointed as Canada’s first Ombudsperson for Responsible Enterprise on April 8, 2019 by the Honourable Jim Carr, Minister of International Trade Diversification. Sheri established the office of the Ombudsperson at the beginning of May 2019.
