Elizabeth Lewis-Gray

The keynote lecture  "The critical need for accelerating innovation in the mining sector" will be given by Elizabeth Lewis-Gray of Gekko Systems Integrated Mineral Processing, Australia.

Elizabeth Lewis-Gray is co-founder and Chair of Gekko Systems, Non-Executive Director of Toronto-based Kirkland Lake Gold (soon to be merged with Agnico Eagle), Chair of start-up Gekko Medical, and Founder and Patron of CEEC International Ltd (a not-for-profit focusing on reducing energy consumption in mining).

Ms Lewis-Gray has been a strong advocate for innovation, collaboration and the METS Industry for almost two decades with long serving roles on the Board of Austmine (including Chair), CSIRO’s Mineral Advisory Board and the Federal Government’s Innovation Australia Board. Her own business, Gekko Systems, is a world leader in gold and silver processing technology, consulting, and energy efficient modular processing solutions.

Ms Lewis-Gray is a Fellow of the Academy of Technology Science (FTSE) and Engineering and the Australasian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy (FAusIMM). In addition she is the recipient of an Honorary Doctorate from Federation University for services to mining and a recipient of Australian 100 Women of Influence Awards and the Warren Engineering Innovation Heroes Award. 

Osvaldo Bascur

The keynote lecture "Digital Disruption: A sustainability approach" will be given by Dr. Osvaldo A. Bascur, Principal at OSB Digital, LLC., USA. 

Dr. Bascur is currently a consultant for Seeq. Before joining Seeq, he worked at OSIsoft, LLC for 25 years. Prior to that he was with Pennzoil Company in Houston, TX where he worked as a Staff Engineer working in the process-engineering department. Before Pennzoil, he was a Process Control Engineer working for Duval Corporation, Tucson, AZ. 

Now at OSB Digital, LLC, Dr. Bascur created a Blueprint for integration of sensors data and operational management, quality, asset, and energy optimization. His current work includes consulting and coaching on Digital Transformation in the process industries.

Dr. Bascur wrote the SME Mineral and Metallurgical Processing Handbook Process Control and Operational Intelligence Chapter, published by SME 2019, Smart Manufacturing Concepts and Methods chapter Measuring, Managing and Transforming data for Operational Insights, Elsevier and Latin American Perspectives: Exploration, Mining, and Processing, SME 1998.

He has written more than 95 technical papers with customers and collaborators. In 2013 he received the prestigious SME Antoine Gaudin Award.

Dr. Bascur received his dual degrees in B.S. Chemical Engineering and B.S. Metallurgical Engineering from the University of Concepcion, Chile, and a Ph.D. in Metallurgical Engineering from the University of Utah.
